Document prescribed equipment and prosthetics for FMP
Practical guide
At a glance
FMP can cover medically necessary prescribed equipment, devices and supplies, including prosthetics, when the covered-condition rules are met.
Who can use this
Veterans in Thailand needing equipment to treat a qualifying service-connected condition.
Eligibility and coverage rules
This can extend beyond appointments and medicines. But an expensive or upgraded model is not automatically covered, and deluxe or luxury features are excluded.
Steps to take
- Ask the treating clinician for a prescription naming the device, the related condition and the expected duration of use.
- Get an itemized description and cost from the supplier. For modifications or nonstandard features, obtain the medical reason.
- Ask FMP through Ask VA about uncertain coverage before purchase; submit the prescription and supporting evidence with the FMP claim.
Timing: Use the applicable FMP claim deadline. An inquiry before purchase is not a payment guarantee or a substitute for required clinical evidence.

Additional requirements
- Do not import all domestic VA prosthetic or hearing-aid benefits into FMP.
- This guide does not promise free equipment merely because a veteran has a high disability rating.
A particular hearing aid, device model or overseas repair/shipping arrangement needs case-specific FMP confirmation. No current Thailand-specific repair entitlement was verified.
