Thailand resident instructions
Prepare Thai treatment records and reimbursement details
Practical guide
At a glance
Prepare the evidence and the reimbursement route before a large planned bill, not after discharge.
Who this is for
Residents using Thai-language records or paying upfront from local accounts.
Eligibility and coverage rules
FMP translates non-English claim documents, though translation can add time. Its payment route depends on the bank information VA holds; the current claims page distinguishes U.S. direct deposit from international-account arrangements. CHAMPVA's current claims page directs beneficiaries to set up direct deposit separately through VA's Financial Services Center.
Steps to take
- Request an itemized English bill and clinical summary if available, while keeping the Thai originals.
- Verify your program's current reimbursement method through the official link and confirm your own setup privately.
- For TRICARE, retain proof of each payment as well as the bill and diagnosis; ask SOS about the documentation needed for Thai records.
Important limits
- Do not post account details or full medical records to a public website or community forum.
- An SOS medical-record translation service is not universally available to every retiree plan: its published service targets Prime Overseas, Prime Remote Overseas and certain TRICARE Plus cases.
- Do not confuse a provider's willingness to bill with a guaranteed reimbursement time.
Confirm for your circumstances
No individual bank's ability to receive a particular payment or cash a Treasury check has been verified. Confirm directly before relying on it.
