Verify a Thai provider and submit a TRICARE claim

Sources checked: 25 October 2026

Practical guide

At a glance

Your TRICARE eligibility and plan govern coverage. International SOS administers overseas services under your TRICARE plan.

Who this is for

Military retirees and eligible family members living in Thailand.

Eligibility and coverage rules

Select Overseas requires enrollment and DEERS eligibility. Most referrals are unnecessary, but some services still need pre-authorization. Retirees should not apply Prime Overseas rules or cashless-care expectations to Select Overseas. TRICARE tells Select Overseas members to expect to pay upfront and claim reimbursement.

Steps to take

  1. Open SOS Provider Search. Select the Pacific region and Thailand, then search your city or area. If nothing suitable appears, ask the regional call center for help.
  2. Ask whether the specific provider is authorized, whether the planned service needs pre-authorization, and whether you must pay upfront.
  3. For reimbursement, complete and sign DD Form 2642, retain an itemized invoice and proof of payment, and use the secure claims portal.

Timing: For medical care received outside the U.S. and U.S. territories, normally 3 years from service or inpatient discharge. U.S./territory care follows the 1-year rule. Do not infer the deadline only from where you live.

Official actions

Important limits

  • No referral required does not mean no authorization required.
  • An authorized provider is not necessarily a direct-billing provider.
  • TRICARE ordinarily pays after most other health insurance; tell the contractor about other coverage.

Confirm for your circumstances

Provider status, direct billing and service authorization must be checked for the actual treatment date. No Thailand hospital is endorsed or guaranteed here.

Additional requirements

  • An invoice with a balance due does not demonstrate payment.
  • Keep copies of signed forms and submission confirmations.
  • Do not import the Philippines' special provider rules into a Thailand guide.

A search result does not guarantee payment or a specific hospital's direct-billing arrangement.
