Return an SSA foreign-enforcement questionnaire

Sources checked: 25 October 2026

Practical guide

At a glance

Follow the instructions in the questionnaire SSA sends you. Keep a signed copy and proof of return.

  1. Read the notice addressed to you and confirm whether SSA requests SSA-7162 for the beneficiary or SSA-7161 for a representative payee.
  2. Complete the required information, sign as instructed and keep a copy. Use the notice's return instructions and deadline, checked against SSA's current foreign-services page.
  3. SSA's page distinguishes ordinary mail from courier delivery. Do not send a courier package to a postal-only address or assume an old temporary-mailing announcement still applies.
  4. If the form never arrives, the mailing route is unavailable or a payment stops, contact Manila FBU using SSA's Thailand directory. Ask whether a questionnaire or another issue is responsible; a missing payment does not prove the cause.

Check before acting

Do not publish a universal annual due date or promise that an emailed scan will always be accepted. Frequency, mailing cycles and case instructions can differ.
